Los Angeles Memories

I spent a considerable amount of time in Los Angeles between 2006 and 2014. Monday to Friday a dozen or so times a year. Too many red-eyes home to count, though I could probably tell you how much 2 Wolfgang Puck pizzas cost at Terminal 2 (some travel rituals stick with you!). My camera always travelled with me but there wasn’t much downtime on these trips. Still, I snapped 100’s of images.

My LA was small, predominantly West Hollywood hotel to Beverly Hills office and back. I’d walk the 2 miles in the morning and then back in the darkness of night. Sunset, La Cienega, Santa Monica… Starbucks along the way… the warmth of the morning sun… the glances of the patio boys on the way ‘home’… so familiar to me as I write this. Toward the end, there was the Hollywood office so a few trips spent entirely within the confines of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Every once in a while, I’d have a day to myself or have a weekend stay over. I’d try to catch a show (Metric!), a Dodgers game, hike up to the top of Runyon, or venture down to the beach. Ahhh, the 704 bus from WeHo to Santa Monica…

So many memories. Here are a selection of images from my LA Days over the last 10 years. They bring back a range of feelings, longings… LA has a special light and something in the air – a magic palette, a warm soothing rhythm.

My one regret is not having pictures of my colleagues and friends. It was always work and the group social events revolved around the work so the camera never came out. At the end of the day, its the people I miss the most…

More of my LA from ‘mylife project’

Post script: The hardest part of writing this story was choosing the selects from the volumes of pictures. Which are too similar, which reflect a memory or feeling, which are technically sound etc… it’s not something I’ve done often (curating / editing from a large collection) and getting better at this is one of the reasons I have built my site in this style. So I’m sure over time I’ll come back to this story and cut down the number of images… hope you enjoy cheers, ken
