Here two shots from the legendary Zoobombs show at Comfort Zone in Toronto on March 13, 2011 as part of Canada Music Week. Firstly, some context, shooting musicians in live settings isn’t something I like, either doing or seeing others shots, mostly because images all tend to be cookie cutter – your pics the same as my pics, bad angles, mics in the way, stage lighting for performance not photo… so I am a cynic re the ‘live shot’ (though great photogs still manage to get great live music shots at times, they just invest the time and have the skill) which brings me to my second point here and why I really don’t like shooting live music… I just love the music I would want to shoot and am too into the moment to be bothered to take the care and the equipment to get a good shot…
That being said, I did take my camera to The Zoobombs show recently. And I did try to capture some of what I felt from this one of my favourite bands in the world… however, a) I was drunk(ish), b) the lighting was crap for photog, c) i put about 2 nanoseconds into composition and other technical wherewithal and finally d) i was rocking my ass off to this show as The Zoobombs (from Tokyo and just a few days after the devastating earthquake) brought it in a way that defies description other than to say it was PURE ROCK AND ROLL AND TOTALLY OFF THE RAILS AMAZING!!!!
Which gets me to these two images out of about 40 frames. I kind of like them, they take me back to the space I was in during the show. And I guess that’s all that matters in an image.
